Bidspirit auction | MALE FIGURE

MALE FIGURE - Male wooden figure, standing on a circular base, with compact volumes and stylized proportions. Prominent head with very protruding eyes, closed mouth and cylindrical element at the top; ringed neck and elongated arms next to the torso, with marked genitals and wide feet. Surface with darkened patina and polished areas, showing carving marks. Due to the treatment of the head, neck and placement of the feet, it may approximate the sculptural tradition of West Africa, a hypothesis not confirmable solely by photographs. Shows visible cracks, losses and woodworm holes.
