Bidspirit auction | FIGURE WITH BASKET

FIGURE WITH BASKET - Figure in metal alloy representing a basket carrier, standing on a small circular base. Slender body, elongated arms and schematic face reinforce verticality; it holds a circular basket with a scalloped rim above its head, with a marked interior texture. The surface reveals casting marks and a brownish-gray patina, with areas smoothed by handling. Due to the stylization of the proportions, the gesture of carrying on the head and the synthetic treatment of the features, it may approximate the sculptural tradition of West Africa, a hypothesis not confirmable solely by photographs.
