Bidspirit auction | HEAD

HEAD - Head in metal alloy, in full relief, resting on a circular base with a radiated frieze and small lateral appendages. Face with compact volumes, well-defined eyes, discreet frontal incisions, and a projecting mouth; neck in successive rings. Headdress of “pearled” mesh with lateral pendants, showing a dark patina with greenish nuances. The ensemble, due to the high collar, the beaded headdress, and the winged base, may approximate the sculptural tradition of Benin; such a hypothesis cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
