Bidspirit auction | MASK

MASK - Wooden mask with applications, flat top and full face, with almond-shaped half-closed eyes and an open horizontal slit mouth. Central ridge nose, vertical incisions on the forehead and cruciform marks on the cheeks; prominent ears pierced with metal rings. Brown, matte patina, with surface wear and small impacts; upper hole for suspension. The set of details may, in stylistic terms, approximate the Chokwe sculptural tradition, a hypothesis that cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
