Bidspirit auction | SEATED FIGURE

SEATED FIGURE - Anthropomorphic figure in metal alloy, seated with legs extended and arms raised above the head, hands joined by a small ring. Head with prominent volumes, smooth skull and face with punctuated and striated relief suggesting scarifications; slightly open mouth and prominent ears. The torso features dense incised patterns of spirals and rhombuses, with rings on the ankles. Dark patina, with areas of wear and soft handling polishes. Due to the formal ensemble and ornamentation, it may approximate sculptural traditions of West Africa, a hypothesis that cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
