Bidspirit auction | ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURE

ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURE - Anthropomorphic figure in wood, with a frontal and compact posture, featuring a disproportionately large oval head, half-closed eyes, and a small mouth; oblique incisions are visible on the faces, and the hands rest on the lower abdomen, with a prominent navel. The body opens into short, splayed legs, with feet defined by incised toes. Smooth surface with a dark brown patina, with reddish nuances. The piece exhibits characteristics that may refer to the Luba/Hemba sculptural tradition in Central Africa, a hypothesis that cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
