Bidspirit auction | FEMALE FIGURE

FEMALE FIGURE - Female figure in metal alloy, with an elongated and frontal body, featuring a large side headdress, necklaces, bracelets, and a belt, and extensive scarifications modeled on the torso and abdomen. She holds a wavy blade in her right hand and an oval object with a short handle, like a hand mirror, in her left; wide feet with defined toes. Brownish surface with a homogeneous patina and fine incised textures. Due to the headdress, adornments, and attributes, it may approximate the courtly sculptural tradition of Benin in West Africa, a hypothesis that cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
