Bidspirit auction | MASK

MASK - Wooden mask, carved with an elongated face, half-closed eyes, and a slightly open mouth revealing teeth. Surface painted in white, black, and blue, with dots on the forehead and curved marks on the cheeks; voluminous top hairstyle with a small circular finial. Heterogeneous patina, with wear and traces of a chromatic layer. The set of features — lightened face, painted scarifications, and elaborate hairstyle — may resemble the sculptural tradition of southeastern Nigeria (female masks), an attribution that cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
