Bidspirit auction | KNEELING FEMALE FIGURE

KNEELING FEMALE FIGURE - Female figure in wood, with a slender body in a kneeling position, arms close to the torso and hands resting on the thighs. Elongated face with incisive features, with narrow eyes, a rectilinear nose and a small mouth; voluminous hairstyle with striated sides and a central crest. Prominent breasts and markedly geometric volumes, matte surface with dry patina, chisel marks and localized wear. The formal language and posture may refer to West African sculptural traditions, a hypothesis not confirmable by photographs alone.
