Bidspirit auction | MASK

MASK - Oval-shaped mask, with carved face and smooth modeling, polychrome in red and white, half-closed eyes and a small dark mouth; darkened peripheral rim with fiber remnants and discreet lateral applications. At the top, a small seated human figure, synthetically drawn and with a rectangular crowning, giving verticality to the whole. Made of diverse materials, with heterogeneous patina, abrasions and color losses that highlight the relief. The serenity of the face, the eyebrow-nose continuity, and the figurative superstructure may approach the Baule/Guro sculptural tradition, a hypothesis not confirmable by photographs alone.
