Bidspirit auction | MALE FIGURE

MALE FIGURE - Male figure in terracotta, with a frontal and compact stance, featuring a tall pointed helmet, a striated collar, and a costume entirely incised with dotted motifs. He holds a staff/spear in his right hand and supports a raised element on his left arm that evokes a shield or fan. The face, with a concentrated expression, shows contained volumes and a grayish patina with wear on the prominences. The combination of ”bead” necklace, helmet, and regalia may approximate the sculptural tradition of Benin (Edo), a hypothesis not confirmable by photographs alone.
