Bidspirit auction | HEAD

HEAD - Anthropomorphic terracotta head, with an elongated volume, featuring oval eyes with incised eyelids and perforated pupils, a nose with open nostrils, and a circular open mouth. A snug headdress delimited by a smooth band and a collar of incised rings on the neck; pinkish-beige surface, granular texture, homogeneous patina, small gaps at the base, and a discreet fissure near the mouth. The combination of features – perforations, 'O'-shaped mouth, and simple headdress – may approach the sculptural tradition of Nok in West Africa, a hypothesis not confirmable solely by photographs.
