Bidspirit auction | CONTAINER WITH LID

CONTAINER WITH LID - Globular container with a lid in metal alloy, resting on a turtle-shaped base; on top, two small modeled figures — one seated with a headdress, the other standing — form the finial. The body displays applications evoking cowrie shells and pods, and an upper band with incised friezes in a scale and wave pattern. Surface with heterogeneous patina, oxidation spots, casting cracks, and wear. Due to the set of motifs — turtle, cowrie shells, and double figure — it may approach the sculptural tradition of Akan areas in West Africa, an attribution that cannot be confirmed solely by photographs.
