Bidspirit auction | ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURE

ANTHROPOMORPHIC FIGURE - Anthropomorphic wooden figure, with a cylindrical and vertical body, prominent head with a sagittal crest, narrow eyes, and a slightly open mouth with indicated dentition. Surface with a very worn whitish patina, darkened at the base; visible cracks, truncated left arm, right arm bent close to the abdomen, marked sexual organ, and lower support carved into a stake. The combination of verticality, elongated torso without legs, frontal crest, and the use of white presents characteristics that may refer to the sculptural tradition of the Middle Benue; such an approximation cannot be confirmed by photographs alone.
