Bidspirit auction | HEAD

HEAD - Terracotta head, modeled in a compact volume, with a full face, prominent nose, small lips, and carved eyes that give it a serious expression. It features an elaborate headdress of a lacy band and a grid of small units, topped by a central pointed element; on the forehead, a prominent circular relief. Matte sandy-toned surface, granular texture, with discreet flaws and worn edges. Due to the high crown with an axial finial and the frontal mark, it presents characteristics that may refer to the sculptural tradition of South/Southeast Asia, a hypothesis not confirmable by photographs alone.
