Bidspirit auction | CROCODILE WITH FIGURES

CROCODILE WITH FIGURES - Sculpture in metal alloy of a crocodile with an elongated body, striated tail, and open snout with pointed teeth, resting on four short legs. On its head rise two small human figures, with schematic volumes and elongated heads, clinging to its back. Dark-toned surface, with homogeneous patina and discreet wear on the edges. The stylization of the set and the motif of riders on an animal show features that may allude to sculptural traditions of West Africa, a hypothesis not confirmable solely by photographs.
