Bidspirit auction | TUBULAR SCULPTURE

TUBULAR SCULPTURE - Terracotta sculpture with a tubular body and conical top, intensely worked with herringbone incisions and friezes; small embossed lobes form a kind of diadem and possible side adornments. The frontality and geometric organization suggest a strongly stylized anthropomorphic figure. Surface with earthy patina and chromatic variations between ochres and grays, with visible incrustations. It exhibits characteristics that may refer to Sahelian traditions of Central Africa, such as those associated with the São culture, due to its tubularity, chevrons, and globular appliques.
