Bidspirit auction | SQUATTING FIGURE

SQUATTING FIGURE - Anthropomorphic wooden figure, with compact volumes, in a squatting posture on a circular base, with hands resting on the protruding belly. Disproportionate head with concentric grooves, prominent nose, and half-closed eyes; ringed neck and feet with marked toes. Surface with dark, dry patina, showing wear and small flaws on the edges. It exhibits characteristics that may refer to Central African traditions, possibly related to the Kongo or Songye universe, due to the facial striations and the emphasis on the belly and head.
