Bidspirit auction | STATUETTE

STATUETTE - Figurative sculpture in metal alloy, depicting a standing figure on a cylindrical base with an incised geometric frieze. Body with full volumes and bent legs, hands on hips, ringed neck and adornments; intensely engraved surface. Disproportionate head with a large crest headdress topped by a zoomorphic motif, prominent eyes and a half-open mouth; rich linear texture and dark patina with areas of sheen. The ensemble shows characteristics that may refer to West African repertoires, possibly related to Benin traditions or Yoruba contexts, due to the monumental headdress, scarifications, and graphic treatment of the features.
