Bidspirit auction | MALE FIGURE

MALE FIGURE - Male figure carved in wood, kneeling, with hands resting forward, elongated torso and voluminous head topped by a tall headdress with an appendix. Surfaces richly worked with geometric incisions in diamonds and mesh, structuring arms, chest, and belly; severe features and marked frontality. Darkened brown patina, with handling sheen and wear on salient edges. Shows characteristics that may refer to productions from the Congo basin, possibly related to Kuba traditions, due to the headdress, axial rigidity, and extensive engraved “scarification”.
