Bidspirit auction | STATUETTE

STATUETTE - Anthropomorphic wooden figure, carved in the round, with a frontal posture, legs apart, and hands resting on the hips. Face with incisive features, half-closed eyes, and a striated crest hairstyle; the body is marked by a grid of geometric incisions, with massive feet and suggested toes. Surface with a brown patina, alternating smoothed and darkened areas. A piece that exhibits characteristics that may refer to Central African productions, possibly related to the Congo basin, due to the hieratic attitude and patterns evoking scarifications.
