Bidspirit auction | MATERNITY

MATERNITY - Figurative wooden sculpture representing maternity: a female figure seated cross-legged, holding a child on her lap. Head with ample proportions, an elevated coiffure crest, almond-shaped eyes, and a closed mouth; on the torso, a necklace and engraved scarifications. Dark patina with wear on the edges accentuates the modeling, resting on a circular base. Due to the maternal motifs, the crest, and the scarifications, it presents characteristics that may suggest Central African traditions, possibly related to the Luba universe.
