Bidspirit auction | ELONGATED FIGURE

ELONGATED FIGURE - Anthropomorphic wooden figure, standing on a small circular base, with markedly elongated proportions. Head with a defined profile, posterior crest, prominent nose, and slightly open mouth; high neck, very long arms extending down along the thighs, and indicated genitalia. Surface with dark patina and lustrous areas, exhibiting fine incisions on the shoulders, arms, and belly that evoke scarifications and bracelets. Presents characteristics that may suggest West African traditions, possibly related to Malian areas, due to the sculptural verticality and incised motifs.
