Bidspirit auction | KNEELING FIGURE

KNEELING FIGURE - Kneeling anthropomorphic figure in wood with beads and shells, resting on a base, holding a small volume in front from which a cowrie shell protrudes. Elongated head with conical hairstyle, incisions on the forehead and cheeks, half-closed eyes, and compact, rounded volumes. Necklaces and belt of green and white beads, with applied shells; irregular patina with areas of wear and traces of dark pigment. Presents characteristics that may refer to West African traditions, possibly close to Yoruba repertoires, due to the hairstyle, scarifications, and use of beads and cowrie shells.
