Bidspirit auction | MATERNITY

MATERNITY - Wooden figure representing maternity: a woman seated on a rectangular base, holding a child lying in her lap. Compact volumes, prominent breasts, and arms close to the body; face with almond-shaped eyes, slightly open mouth, rings in the earlobes, and a headdress with a geometric band. Surface with brown patina and incisions suggesting scarifications, including a raised circle on the forehead. It presents characteristics that may refer to Chokwe/Lunda traditions of Central Africa, due to the emphasis on maternity, body marks, and facial treatment.
