Bidspirit auction | ANTIQUE CAUCASIAN KAZAK TRIBAL RUG
ANTIQUE CAUCASIAN KAZAK TRIBAL RUG - Kazak tribal rug originating from the Caucasus, datable to the late 19th or early 20th century, measuring 2.70 x 1.66 meters (4.48 m²) and presented in very good overall condition. This collector's piece is exceptionally distinguished by retaining its original period lead seal attached to the structure, an important historical element that attests to its customs authenticity and legitimate antiquity. Its central field, in intense shades of brick-red and indigo blue, is adorned with three large stepped geometric medallions and traditional nomadic weaving motifs, framed by a wide triple border with an intermediate bar in bluish-grey. Entirely hand-woven with a symmetric knot, it displays a warp and weft structure of natural undyed wool, clearly visible on the reverse and original fringes. The example stands out for a unique organic patina with natural tone variations (abrash) from vegetable dyes, maintaining remarkable structural integrity and excellent pile preservation for its venerable age.
