WALTER OPHEY, Villa Bayer O/C Painting - Oil on canvas painting of Villa Bayer, by artist Walter Ophey (German, 1882-1930). Signed lower left and dated 1911. Frame plate misspells Ophey's name ”Walther, ” and includes only his birth year, as the painting was framed prior to 1930. The Bayer Villa is a historic estate located in the Hochdahl district of Erkrath, near Dusseldorf, where Ophey studied art and later passed away. Provenance: Obtained from the grandson of artist Dietz Edzard, whose first wife, Emmy Bayer (the granddaughter of Friedrich Bayer Sr., founder of the Bayer Co.) was the niece of Friedrich Jr., who purchased the Bayer Villa about 1910. The estate remained with the Bayer family until it was sold in the 1970s. Measures 30” x 28”. This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice.
