Nicola Viso or Cajetan Roos, Ruins Landscape - Oil on canvas of a cowherd and shepherdess with their livestock beside ruins in a landscape. Something of an enigma here, as the painting has been attributed to both Nicola Viso (Italian, 1700-1750) and to Cajetan Roos (aka Gaetano de Rosa, Italian, 1690-1770). Canvas measures 34” x 24” frame measures 41-1/2” x 32-1/2”. Provenance: From private Florida collection, obtained March 11, 2021 from Setdart Auction in Barcelona (Lot 67, attributed to Viso). Sold April 27, 2016, at Bonhams London (Lot 133, attributed to Roos/de Rosa). While the painting was attributed to different artists, both are considered to be Italian masters.
