West Point Ring, GREEN BERET Gen. Yarborough - Important 14K gold United States Military Academy ring, personally owned and worn by Lt. Gen. William Pelham Yarborough, class of 1936, one of the most consequential military leaders of the 20th century. The inside is engraved with his full name and ”United States Army.” Yarborough (American, 1912-2005) is credited as being the father of the Green Berets. A WWII airborne commander and designer of the U.S. paratrooper's badge, jump boots and the M42 paratrooper uniform, Yarborough helped define America's special operations capabilities. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy appointed him personally to lead the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center, tasking him with expanding and institutionalizing the role of Special Forces in global Cold Warstrategy. Ring is size 8-1/2 and weighs 27.1 grams. Provenance: Consigned by a long-time personal friend of General Yarborough, one who delivered a eulogy at the general's funeral.
