Yarborough - Elegant gilt silver niello presentation bowl, engraved on underside ”Warmest congratulations for your golden wedding anniversary” and ”Bhumibol, Sirikit, December 26, 1986.” Presented to Lt. Gen. William P. Yarborough for his 50th wedding anniverry, this diplomatic gift from King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit honors one of the U.S. Army's most decorated figures in special warfare and a key architect of U.S.-Thai military relations. Though retired from the U.S. Army by 1986, Yarborough remained an influential figure in international military affairs and a respected ally of Southeast Asian leaders, including the Thai monarchy. Comes with the personal card of then-Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand (now Thailand's king, Rama X), who personally attended the general's memorial service in April 2006. Measures about 8-1/4” diameter. Provenance: Consigned by a long-time personal friend of General Yarborough, one who delivered a eulogy at the general's 2005 funeral.
