Bidspirit auction | WW2: War Trophy Steyr Pistol,
WW2: War Trophy Steyr Pistol, Flare Gun, Etc. - Outstanding, documented war trophy collection, brought back from WWII by an Army PFC of the 13th Armored Division (”The Black Cats”) in 1945. The collection includes a 1916 dated Steyr-Hahn pistol and holster, a 1940 German flare gun, binoculars, acompass, and a flashlight. Also included is a scarce, original 13th Armored shoulder patch. The Steyr pistol is an M1912 semi-automatic, a model so reliable that it remained in service through WWII -- many were rechambered for 9mm. (This one was untouched, as issued in 1916. Army trophy paperwork lists it as .38 cal automatic.) The pistol comes with its original holster. The flare gun is a Walther model, with EIGHT Nazi eagle Waffenamt (proof) stamps on the right side. The binoculars are fairly common, Wohler model. The flashlight is a Daimon. The compass is an MK German infantry marching compass. Here's what ties it all together: The collection is accompanied by four Army documents that list each individual component, including the serial numbers of the Steyr and the compass. One of the documents is dated June 19, 1945, and three of the documents are dated July 12, 1945. The 13th Armored left Germany for France on June 25th, and they left France for the U.S. on July 14th.
