Japanese Type 19 Kyu Gunto Army Officer's Sword - Japanese Army officer's dress sword, Type 19 Kyu Gunto pattern, likely from the Meiji or Taisho period. Blade measures approx. 28-1/4”, overall length approx. 33-1/2”. Curved, plated steel blade with single fuller and unetched panel. Gilded brass guard features pierced floral scrollwork, with cherry blossom motifs on the pommel and backstrap. WWII era Japanese Army officer's parade sword with a lacquered wood (or possibly horn) grip and the ”10 petal” IJA cherry blossom emblem on the sides of the handle. Grip is wrapped in twisted wire. Includes original steel scabbard with single suspension ring. Standard parade and service sidearm for Imperial Japanese Army officers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
