Bidspirit auction | Signed Katana with Ornate Mounts
Signed Katana with Ornate Mounts and Kogatana - Japanese katana, signed on the tang, measuring approximately 27” in blade length and 35-1/2” overall to the end of the tang. The blade displays a prominent folded steel grain (hada) pattern. Mounts include a pierced tsuba, seppa with chrysanthemumdetail, and an embellished scabbard featuring engraved panels with fish, birds, and a lion. The hilt wrap is intact over ray skin, with a fish motif on the pommel. A small matching kogatana is housed in a side slot of the scabbard. The blade may date to the WWII period, though the scabbard and fittings appear later or non-military and may not be original to the sword.
