WW2: U.S. M1917A1 ”Kelly” Helmet - Original U.S. M1917A1 steel helmet, commonly referred to as the ”Kelly helmet,” developed in the 1930s as an upgrade to the WWI-era M1917. Rim is stamped ”23C,” consistent with known heat lot codes used during interwar production. This model retas the original M1917 shell but was retrofitted with the improved 1936 liner and chinstrap assembly. The helmet features two sets of bales: the original rectangular bales are welded to the steel shell (a leftover from WWI production), while functional canvas chin straps are attached to integrated D-rings on the upgraded liner, a distinguishing feature of the M1917A1 configuration. Exterior retains original coarse OD green textured finish with scattered wear and oxidation. The improved leather liner is firmly in place and shows minimal handling wear.
