1872 U.S. Cavalry Officer's Saber w/ Eagle Guard - U.S. Model 1872 cavalry officer's saber. Saber blade measures approx. 31-3/4”, 37-1/4” overall, 13/16” wide. Brass guard features three branches and a spread-winged federal eagle surrounded by 13 stars on the interior -- a classic post-Civil War ptriotic motif. Pommel shows decorative laurel detailing with flag. Grip is missing wire wrap. No visible markings on ricasso or spine. Blade has single fuller and medium curve. Guard is slightly loose. No scabbard present. Circa 1870s-1890s, likelyused for dress or ceremonial purposes by a cavalry officer. TAGS: postbellum, U.S. saber, patriotic hilt, officer sword, American blade.
