Model 1850 U.S. Officer's Sword Horstmann - Model 1850 Foot Officer's sword manufactured in Germany for Horstmann of Philadelphia, widely retailed to Union officers during the American Civil War. This example measures approx. 35-3/4” overall with a 30” etched blade featuring ”U.S.” and folte designs. The ricasso is marked ”Germany” on one side and ”Horstmann / Philadelphia” on the other. Brass hilt with large, shield-style guard bearing an American eagle and floral motifs, cast brass pommel, and wire-wrapped grip. Includes originametal scabbard with two suspension rings. This is a non-regulation dress sword, made in a highly decorative pattern and not intended for field combat. TAGS: presentation, Solingen, officer collectible, fraternal style, parade weapon, ceremonial armMinor handling wear, blade has a slight curve. No rust on blade.
