Bidspirit auction | Highwaymen: AL BLACK or ALFRED

Highwaymen: AL BLACK or ALFRED HAIR Landscape - Oil on board painting of a Florida landscape, signed faintly lower right Al Black, however, the collector shared a story that Mary Ann Carroll believed it was actually painted by Alfred Hair due to the way the palm fronds are painted and then coconuts on the ground (this second feature is found only in works by Alfred Hair or Harold Newton), likely an early work from the 1960s, sight 22-1/2” x 34-1/2” frame 26” x 38”. ADDITIONAL NOTE: An independent authority on Highwaymen artwork affirmed that Black did indeed sign many other artists' works. However, his opinion is that this painting is 1) definitely not by Alfred Hair, 2) ”too good” to be an Al Black from this era, and 3) likely the work of Highwayman artist Willie Daniels (1950-2021).This item will need to be shipped by a packing company of your choice.
