Josephus Flavius — The Jewish War Flavius Josephus — Geschichte des Jüdischen Krieges Benjamin Harz Publishing, Berlin–Vienna, 1923 - An early German edition of The Jewish War by Josephus Flavius (Yosef ben Matityahu), translated and provided with an introduction and scholarly notes by Dr. Heinrich Clementz. Published in 1923 by Benjamin Harz in Berlin and Vienna, one of the most important publishing houses for Jewish and German literature in the early 20th century. This edition includes a fold-out map/plate of the Temple in Jerusalem (Der Tempel zu Jerusalem), detailing the various sections of the Temple complex as well as the upper and lower parts of the city — a rare and valuable research feature. Josephus is a central historical source for understanding the Roman period in Judea, the Great Revolt, and the destruction of the Second Temple. This edition reflects the strong academic interest in Europe in Josephus’ writings and the effort to make them accessible to German-speaking readers.
