Chinese Archaistic Bronze Bell on Carved Wooden Stand - A decorative cast copper alloy bell, created in the style of an ancient Chinese bianzhong or clapperless chime bell. The bell features a rectangular cross-section with a curved lower rim and is finished with an applied patina showing green verdigris and dark brown oxidation. The exterior is ornamented with four registers of raised circular bosses, or ni, divided by recessed bands. The lower section is decorated in relief with archaic-style scrollwork. A central vertical panel on one face contains cast characters in an archaic Chinese script. The bell is suspended from a custom-fitted wooden stand with a reddish-brown finish. The stand is carved in a traditional Chinese architectural form with a scrolled top rail and a cloud-shaped base. A small, flat metal striker is included with the set. The casting and stand construction are consistent with 20th-century decorative production.
