United states , Japan , Russia ,1931 First Flight Cover TOKIO TO DALLAS , Japan - (Russia) - US: 1931 interrupted Transpacific flight (Moyle/Allen)Description Cover carried by American aviators Don Moyle and Cecil Allen as they attempted to fly non-stop from Japan to Seattle in their plane, EMSCO B3 Clasina Madge. Signed by both aviators, postmarked Tokyo September 6, and Seattle October 9, 1931. AAMC TO-1169.Moyle and Allen were hoping to claim a major prize offered for the first non-stop flight from Japan to continental US, but their plans quickly went astray. They encountered bad weather, went off course, were forced to land on an uninhibited island in the Aleutian chain, and got marooned there for several days. Eventually, they reached Kamchatka, refueled there (by paint thinner by some accounts, by diesel fuel by others) and flew to Nome, Alaska. Continued to be plagued by bad weather, they had finally made it to Takoma, Washington on October 6, only to learn that Pangborn and Herndon in Miss Veedol had just succeeded in makinig a non-stop crossing
