”I hereby appoint you my emissary... before the Western Wall on the festival of Shavuos... to arouse mercy on behalf of Klal Yisrael and everyone in the Diaspora, myself among them.” Lengthy and distinguished letter (2 pgs) handwritten and signed by Harav Yechezkel of Ostrovtza. Written before Shavuos - ”The beginning of the seventh week, hamshachas chesed l'kabbalas malchus Shamayim .” In the letter, the Rebbe writes to a student who is a Kohen, ”Kohanim become our emissaries and the emissaries of Hashem to arouse great mercy...” ”I hereby appoint you my emissary... one hour of Torah and tefillah especially for me before the Kosel Hamaaravi on the upcoming festival of Shavuos... to arouse mercy on behalf of Klal Yisrael and everyone in the Diaspora, myself among them.” He also writes about chiddushei Torah  by his father, the Rebbe Harav Mer Yechiel: ”And may I have the merit of arranging and printing my father zt”l's   chiddushei Torah .” Later, the Rebbe writes names of family members to be mentioned and also writes about additional matters. Lengthy letter, two pgs. 14/21 cm. More than 30 handwritten lines plus his signature.  Double paper. Fold lines and creases. Minor stains. A number of tears and tapings with slight damage. At the end of the letter there is a tear in the bottom margin with damage and missing text (the missing part is after the signature, where a few additional lines appear. The signature is complete.) General Condition: Fair - Good. Harav Yechezkel HaLevi of Ostrovtza  [1887-1943] was a saintly man and a great genius. One of the great Rebbes of his generation, he was the son of the Rebbe Harav Yechiel Meir of Ostrovtza [the Rebbe who fasted for forty years] and the son-in-law of Harav Naphtaly of Melitz. He founded Yeshivas Beis Meir in Poland. He served as Rav in a number of places and in 1928 took over his father's position in Ostrovtza. He was killed al kiddush Hashem during World War II on the tenth of Teves. May Hashem avenge his blood. The recipient of the letters, Harav Yechiel Fishel HaKohen, [1895-1980] was the son of Harav Avraham Moshe HaKohen. Already at a young age, he gained renown as a great genius and was dubbed ”the ilui of Lodz.” He was an outstanding disciple of the Rebbes of Ostrovtza, Harav Yechiel Meir of Ostrovtza and Harav Yechezkel of Ostrovtza. He was exceptionally proficient in the halachos of issur and heter [food-related] and was known as an outstanding gaon . Upon his move to Eretz Yisrael, Harav Yechiel Fishel served as a member of the Chief Rabbinate in Tel Aviv, earning a reputation for his righteousness and diligence. For a number of years, he served as Av Beis Din. Some of his chiddushei Torah were printed in Mareh Kohen.  Harav Shimon Cohen, author of Aseres Monim , is his son, as is Harav Zev Cohen, a Rosh Yeshivah in Gateshead. The deep bond between Harav Yechezkel of Ostrovtza and Harav Yechiel Fishel formed when Harav Yechezkel was called upon to serve as Rav of the town of Inowlodz in the Lodz province at the age of twenty-four, just a few years after his marriage. Since he'd mostly studied b'iyun  until that time, his father, the elderly Rebbe, sent him to Harav Yechiel Fishel, the ilui  of Lodz, who was proficient in the laws of forbidden/permitted foods, despite being just sixteen years old! He asked Harav Yechiel Fishel to learn with his son Harav Yechezkel. Harav Yechezkel demonstrated his gratitude for this favor all his life, assisting him greatly and personally making the necessary arrangements for him to move to Eretz Yisrael and serve as a Rav in Tel Aviv.
