Nefesh Hachaim  by Harav Chaim of Volozhin. Classic work, First Edition. Wide margins. Antique inscriptions. Vilna and Horodna 1824 Yiras Hashem L'chaim - Nefesh Hachaim , service of Hashem and the cornerstones of Torah b'derech haniglah vehanistar  by Harav Chaim of Volozhin, an outstanding disciple of the Vilna Gaon and the greatest rosh yeshivah in the Lithuanian Torah world. First edition of one of the most distinguished classical works on the Torah of the Vilna Gaon; a book of great sancitity and virtue. The Brisker Rav referred to it as ”the Shulchan Aruch of hashkafah .” The book was compiled and brought to print by the author's son, Harav Yitzchak of Volozhin, and by his nephew (his sister's son), Kabbalist Harav Avraham Simchah of Amchislav. In the introduction, Harav Yitzchak details his father's family history and expounds on his derech  and doctrine. First Edition . Vilna and Horodna 1824. [6] 17, 10, 8 [1], 4, 17 pgs; in this copy: the four pages are bound after [6] the approbations and introductions. The book is complete; we counted every page. 22 cm. The title page bears an antique inscription , and it is possible that the writer's signature once appeared but was cut. Inside the border of the title page is an antique signature: ”Avraham Yosef baa... Yechiel Michel.” And on bottom of the title page an ownership inscription appears” ”This book belongs to the renowned philanthropist Moreinu Harav Meir Eilenberg” - most likely Harav Meir Eilenberg of Serednik, father-in-law of Harav Moshe Betzalel Luria, Av Beis Din in Seini and Suvalk  and author of Emek Sukkos  and other works. Old binding, slightly worn. There's a tear on the page with the poem with damage to the border, but with no damage to the text. There is no damage to the other side of the title page, although there is a small hole in the center. A few stains. A few solitary tears in the margins. Worming hole in the inner margins at the end of the book. Condition: Good - Very Good. 'נפש החיים' להגאון רבי חיים מוואלוז'ין. ספר יסוד, 'מהדורה ראשונה'. שוליים רחבים. רישומים עתיקים. ווילנא והוראדנא תקפ”ד 1824 ספר 'יראת ה' לחיים - נפש החיים' עבודת השי”ת ויסודות התורה בדרך הנגלה והנסתר, מהגאון רבי חיים מוולוז'ין, תלמידו המובהק של הגאון מווילנא וגדול ראשי ישיבות ליטא. דפוס ראשון של אחד מספרי היסוד החשובים בתורת הגר”א, וסגולתו וקדושתו עצומה. הרב מבריסק כינהו 'שלחן ערוך בהשקפה'. הספר נערך והובא לבית הדפוס ע”י בנו הגאון רבי יצחק מוואלוז'ין ועל ידי אחיינו(בן-אחותו) הגאון המקובל רבי אברהם שמחה מאמצ'יסלב. בהקדמת רבי יצחק, כותב על תולדות אביו המחבר ועל דרכו ומשנתו. מהדורה ראשונה. ווילנא והוראדנא תקפ”ד 1824. [6] יז, י', ח' [1], ד', יז דף; בעותק זה: ד' הדפים נכרכו אחרי [6] דפי ההסכמות וההקדמות. הספר שלם, נספר דף דף. 22 ס”מ. בשער הקדשה עתיקה, וייתכן כי הייתה חתימת הכותב ונחתכה. בתוך מסגרת השער חתימה עתיקה: ”אברהם יוסף באא”.. יחיאל מיכל”. ובשער למטה, רישום בעלות עתיק: ”זה הספר שייך להנגיד והמפורסם מו”ה מאיר איילבערג” - ככל הנראה הוא הגאון רבי מאיר איילבערג מסרעדנא חמיו של הגאון רבי משה בצלאל לוריא אב”ד סייני וסובאלק ומח”ס 'עמק סוכות' ושא”ס. כריכה עתיקה מעט בלויה. קרע בדף השיר עם פגיעה בשער המסגרת אולם ללא כל פגיעה בטקסט, גם ללא פגיעה מעבר השער, וכן נקב קטן במרכז השער. מעט כתמים. מספר קרעים בודדים בשוליים. נקב עש בשוליים הפנימיים בסוף הספר. מצב טוב - טוב מאוד.
