Distinguished copy, unique leather binding, a book that is a segulah , Magen David by the Rebbe of Tolne. First Edition. Zhitomir 1852. Magen David, holy discourses on Torah and the Festivals, by the Rebbe Harav Dovid of Tolne.  This book was printed by the Rebbe himself so that even those who were far away and unable to come to hear his teachings in person could read it and be inspired in their service of Hashem. As he writes in the introduction: “To illuminate the hearts of all Yidden, far and near… to draw an abundance of... blessing upon them…” Extremely important segulah book. The holy author himself writes in the introduction to the third edition of the b ook (Lvov 1880): ”And I say that any person of wise heart who acquires this book and studies it, I hope it will serve as a remedy for his body and soul, in both spirituality and material matters, in this world and the World to Come, and that he will succeed in temporal and eternal achievements.” First edition and the first book authored by the Rebbe Harav Dovid of Tolne. Zhitomir, printed by Harav Chanina Lipa, Harav Aryeh Leib, and Harav Yehoshua Heshel Shapira, grandchildren of the Slavita Rav and the Rebbe Harav Pinchas of Koritz. 1852. 120 [1] pg; 21 cm. Complete and attractive copy. Two title pages , with a few letters on the second title page in red ink, a title page found in some copies. On the final page: “ Table of Errors and Corrections, ” present only in some copies. Unique leather binding , with the following inscribed on the cover: “This book belongs to Moreinu Harav Levi Yitzchak, son of the Rav of Machshtzveta[?]” (uncertain reading). On the second title page, an antique signature (appears to be from the time of printing) reads: “ Levi Yitzchak beHarav ” (we could not identify the signer). Elegant leather binding, slightly worn. Stains, mostly minor. A few worming holes in the margins, with slight damage to a few letters. Condition: Good - Very Good. The Rebbe Harav Dovid of Tolne [1848–1882], son of Harav Mordechai of Chernobyl, was named for his ancestor Harav David Leykes of Bar, a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. From a young age, he was distinguished for his sharp intellect and wisdom. He became the son-in-law of the holy Rebbe Harav Yisrael Avraham of Czarny-Ostrow, son of the Rebbe Reb Zusha of Anipoli. 'דפוס ראשון'. זיטאמיר תרי”ב 1852 ספר 'מגן דוד' אמרי קודש עה”ת והמועדים, מהאדמו”ר הרה”ק רבי דוד מטאלנא. ספר שנדפס ע”י המחבר הק', שגם לאלו הרחוקים שלא יכולים לבוא לשמוע חיזוק ממנו, יקראו בספר ויתעוררו לעבודת הי”ת, וכך כותב בין הדברים בהקדמתו: ”להאיר כל לבבות ישראל הרחוקים כקרובים ... להמשיך שפע רצון ברכה עליהם ...”. ספר סגולה חשוב ביותר, והמחבר הק' כותב בעצמו בהקדמתו למהדורה השלישית של הספר (לבוב תר”מ): ”והנני לאמר אשר כל איש חכם לב אשר יקנה את הספר הזה ויהגה בו, אקוה שיהי' עליו לתרופה לגופו ונפשו ברוחניות וגשמיות בזה ובבא, יצליח בהצלחות זמניות ונצחיות”. מהדורה ראשונה וספרו הראשון של המחבר הרה”ק רבי דוד מטולנא. זיטאמיר, בדפוס רבי חנינא ליפא, רבי אריה ליב ורבי יהושע העשיל שפירא נכדי הרה”ק מסלאוויטא והרה”ק רבי פנחס מקאריץ. תרי”ב 1852. ק”כ [1] דף; 21 ס”מ. עותק שלם ונאה. שני שערים, מעט מאותיות שער שני בדיו אדום, שער המצוי בחלק מן העותקים. בדף האחרון: 'לוח הטעות והתיקון', מצוי רק בחלק מן הטפסים. כריכת עור מיוחדת, על הכריכה חרוט: זה הספר שייך למוהר”ר לוי יצחק בן הרב מחשצווטע[? מהשצווטע?]. בשער השני חתימה עתיקה(נראית מתקופת ההדפסה) ”לוי יצחק בהרב”(לא זיהינו את זהות החותם). כריכת עור מהודרת, ומעט בלויה. כתמים בעיקר קלים. מעט נקבי עש בשוליים ומעט עם פגיעה קלה במספר אותיות. מצב טוב - טוב מאוד. האדמו”ר הרה”ק רבי דוד מטולנא [תקס”ח - תרמ”ב] בן הרה”ק רבי מרדכי מטשרנוביל. נקרא על שם זקינו רבי דוד לייקעס מבאר תלמיד הבעש”ט הק'. מנעוריו הצטיין בחריפותו וחכמתו. חתן הרה”ק רבי ישראל אברהם מטשארני-אוסטראה בנו של הרה”ק הרבי רבי זושא מהאניפולי. נודע כבעל רוח הקודש ופועל ישועות.
