Spanish Translation of the Bible, printed for the community of Marranos in Amsterdam. Amsterdam, 1661 Torah, Neviim and Kesuvim, translated into Spanish. BIBLIA en lengua Espanola traduzida palabra por palabra de la verdad Hebrayca, por muy excelentes letrados vista y examinada por el officio de la Inquisicion. The translation is based on the Ferrara Bible, the first complete translation of the Hebrew Bible into Spanish. The present edition was proofread and revised by the editor, Harav Shmuel de Caceres. The Bible was printed for the descendants of Marranos , in Amsterdam, whose command of Hebrew was limited. [16], 639, 642–786, 789–1325, [6] pp.; 19.5 cm. Worn leather binding, with the rear cover detached. Adhesive repairs to the margins of several leaves, and a repair to the title page with minor loss. A few tears and stains, mostly light; in a few isolated places, tears and stains result in some loss to the text.
