Exceptionally rare miniature! Mikveh Yisrael , Amsterdam, 1698, first Hebrew edition of Harav Menasseh Ben Israel’s landmark work on the Ten Lost Tribes and the Sambatyon River Mikveh Yisrael by Harav Menasseh Ben Israel,  who devoted considerable efforts to the welfare of Jews scattered throughout the Diaspora. His Mikveh Yisrael became a foundational work in the study of the Ten Lost Tribes, presenting the findings of his extensive research. Among other things, he maintained that the Ten Lost Tribes were located in South America and that the indigenous Indian tribes living there had been influenced by their customs. Some of his conclusions were based on testimony he heard from the converso Aharon Halevi de Montesinos, who arrived in Holland by ship from India. Montesinos had previously visited the American continent, where he encountered indigenous inhabitants who observed Jewish traditions (“A Remarkable Account from Aharon Halevi the Sephardi”). The work includes historical and geographical observations concerning the inhabitants of the American continent, citations of testimonies drawn from additional works of research and travel, and a discussion of the subject of the Geulah. At the beginning of the volume, there is an introduction by the translator, Rav Elyakim Shatz of Komarno , a cantor in Amsterdam, followed by a “ Luach Sefarim ” (Index of Books) and a “ Luach Sifrei HaUmos ” (Index of Secular Books). Bound together with Masa’ot shel Rabi Binyamin HaRofei  — the travel journal of the renowned traveler Rabbi Benjamin of Tudela. The front pastedown bears the bookplate of ”Meir ben Shalom Yehuda Halevi Goldschmidt.” First edition in Hebrew. Amsterdam 1698. Mikveh Yisrael : 66 leaves; Masa’ot shel Rabbi Binyamin : 27 leaves; 10.5 cm. Antique binding, damaged and sans spine. Stains and minor tears. Several leaves are slightly detached. A few wormholes in the margins. On the title page of  Masa’ot shel Rabbi Binyamin , as well as a number of additional leaves, the margins are trimmed slightly into the text. 'מקוה ישראל' אמשטרדם תנ”ח 1698, מהדורה ראשונה בלשון הקודש של חיבור החכם רבי מנשה בן ישראל בעניין מציאת עשרת השבטים ונהר סמבטיון ספר 'מקווה ישראל' מאת החכם רבי מנשה בן ישראל , שעסק ופעל רבות למען היהודים הפזורים בארצות הגולה, 'מקוה ישראל' שכתב הינו ספר היסוד למחקר אודות עשרת השבטים האבודים מאז שחקר ופרסם בו את ממצאיו. בין הדברים כתב על עשרת השבטים האבודים כי הם נמצאים באמריקה הדרומית, ושבטי האינדיאנים המקומיים השוכנים שם הושפעו ממנהגי השבטים, כאשר חלק מדבריו התבססו על עדויות ששמע מפי האנוס אהרן הלוי דה מונטזינוס שהגיע בספינה מהודו להולנד, ולפני כן ביקר ביבשת אמריקה ושם פגש בבני המקום ששומרים על מסורות יהודיות('מעשה רב מן אהרן הלוי הספרדי'), הספר כולל גם התייחסות היסטורית גיאוגרפית בנוגע לתושבי יבשת אמריקה, מובאות של עדויות נוספות מספרי מחקר ומסעות, ודיון בנושא הגאולה. בראש הספר מובאת הקדמתו של המתרגם רבי אליקים ש”ץ מקאמרנא, חזן באמשטרדם, ולאחריה מפתח ”לוח ספרים”, ו”לוח ספרי האומות”. כרוך עמו ספר 'מסעות של רבי בנימין הרופא' - יומן מסעותיו של הנוסע רבי בנימין מטודלה. על פנים הכריכה הקדמית ישנו תו ספר של ”מאיר בן שלום יהודה הלוי גאלדשמידט”. דפוס ראשון בלשון הקודש . אמשטרדם תנ”ח 1698. מקוה ישראל: ס”ו ד'; מסעות של רבי בנימין: כ”ז ד'; 10.5 ס”מ. כריכה עתיקה פגועה וללא שדרה. כתמים וקרעים קלים. מספר דפים מעט מנותקים. מעט נקבי עש בשוליים. בספר מסעות של רבי בנימין ישנם מספר דפים בהם השוליים חתוכים מעט על הטקסט. מצב טוב - טוב מאוד.
