Holy and awesome! She'iltos d'Rav Achai Gaon , a foundational work, first edition, copy of the Sha'agas Aryeh ! Venice 1546 First time on auction!!! This sefer that belonged to the author of Sha'agas Aryeh , who studied and pored over it until he knew it by heart, word for word, as per the testimony of his student, Harav Gedalya Rothenberg, Av Beis Din of Bodenheim. She'iltos d'Rav Achai Gaon , Halachic rulings arranged according to the weekly parashah, by Rav Acha of Shabcha, one of the earliest Geonim of Babylonia.  This is the first work composed after the sealing of the Talmud and one of the foundational works of Halachic literature. Holy and awesome! The sacred book studied by the Sha'agas Aryeh, the greatest Torah luminary of the Diaspora in his times, until he knew it by heart verbatim.  The last page bears the inscription: ”Belongs to... the great gaon…the famous luminary… Av Beis Din… of the holy community of Metz… author of Sha'agas Aryeh .” The Sha'agas Aryeh's mastery of the She'iltos is described by his student, Harav Gedalya Rothenberg, Av Beis Din of Bodenheim , at the beginning of Gevuras Ari (on Masechtas Ta'anis): ”It is true that I had the merit of serving… the author of Sha'agas Aryeh and Turei Even , zt”l … when he became blind, I was still serving him, and I would read aloud all of Shas to him every month. Every day, [I'd read] the Gemara without Rashi or Tosfos, merely to jog his memory, for as soon I began a single phrase, he would continue it by heart. Likewise, when I read to him Alfasi, Rambam, the Rosh, the Tur, and the Shulchan Aruch… and so too the works of the Rishonim: She'iltos d'Rav Achai, Halachos Gedolos, and Seder Kodashim were entirely at his fingertips.” First printing. Venice, from the famous press of Daniel Bomberg, 1546. 61 [1] leaves; 30 cm.  Antique marbled binding, slightly worn. Wide margins. Very minor worming damage with a few isolated instances of damage to the text. Age stains, mostly in the margins, and on two pages with slight damage to a few letters. A few minor tears in the margins. Condition: Good - Very Good. Harav Aryeh Leib, author of Sha'agas Aryeh [1695–1785] was one of the greatest gedolim and ge'onim in recent generations. He served as Rav and Rosh Yeshivah in Minsk and Volozhin, and later served as Rosh Yeshivah and Rav of Metz, where he served until his passing at an advanced age. His works: Sha'agas Aryeh, Turei Even, and Gevuras Ari . The Chofetz Chaim wrote in his introduction to the book Gevuras Ari : ”Rabbeinu Hagadol Sar HaTorah Gaon Hage'onim… author of Sha'agas Aryeh .” The Vilna Gaon testified about him that he could arrange a summary of all of Shas in his mind within a single hour. קדוש ונורא! ה'שאילתות דרב אחאי גאון', ספר יסוד, מהדורה ראשונה, עותק גאון עוזינו רשכבה”ג רבינו בעל השאגת אריה! ויניציאה ש”ו 1546 לראשונה במכירות!!! ספר שהיה שייך לגאון הגאונים רבינו הגדול בעל ה'שאגת אריה'. ספר שלמד והגה בו עד שהיה שגור בפיו וידעו בעל פה מילה במילה, כפי עדות תלמידו הגאון רבי גדליה רוטנברג אב”ד באדינגהיים. ספר 'שאילתות דרב אחאי גאון' , פסקי דינים והלכות כסדר פרשיות התורה, מאת רב אחא משבחא, מראשוני גאוני בבל . החיבור הראשון שהתחבר אחרי חתימות התלמוד ומיסודי ספרי ההלכה. קדוש ונורא! הספר הקדוש שבו למד והגה עד שידעו בעל פה מילה במילה, רבן של כל בני הגולה הגאון והקדוש רבינו הגדול בעל השאגת אריה. בדף האחרון נרשם: ”שייך לה”ה האלוף הגאון הגדול המאה”ג המפורסם חריף ובקי בכל חדרי תורה אב”ד ור”מ דק”ק מיץ יע”א בעל המחבר ספר שאגת ארי' ”. על בקיאותו העצומה של בעל שאגת אריה בספר השאלתות, מספר תלמידו הגאון רבי גדליה רוטנברג אב”ד באדינגהיים בראש הספר גבורת ארי(תענית) : ”הן אמת שזכיתי לשמש בקודש את קדושת הרב נר ישראל מופת הדור רשכבה”ג אדמו”ר הגאון בעל המחבר ש”א וט”א זצ”ל .... ואח”ז שכהה מאור עיניו של בעל ש”א זצ”ל זכיתי עוד לשמש אותו וקריתי לפניו ממש כל חודש כל הש”ס מדי יום ביומו הגמרא בלי רש”י ותוס' ואך לאדכורי בעלמא כי מיד שפתחתי במאמר אחד לדבר הוא היה אומר להלן בעל פה וכן בקרותי לפניו אלפסי ורמב”ם ורא”ש וטור וש”ע אך לשון המחבר וכן ספרי ראשונים שאלתות דרב אחאי והלכות גדולות וסדר קדשים היו אצלו ממש כמונח בקופסא”. דפוס ראשון . ונציה, בדפוסו המפורסם של דניאל בומברג(בומבירגי), ש”ו 1546. ס”א [1] דף; 30 ס”מ. כריכת שיש עתיקה, מעט בלויה. שוליים רחבים. מעט מאוד נזקי עש עם מספר פגיעות בודדות בטקסט. כתמי זמן ברובם בשוליים ובשני עמודים עם פגיעה קלה במספר אותיות. מספר קרעים קלים בשוליים. מצב טוב - טוב מאוד. הגאון רבי אריה ליב בעל ה'שאגת אריה' [תנ”ה - תקמ”ה] מגדולי וגאוני ישראל בדורות האחרונים. כיהן כרב וכראש ישיבה במינסק ובוואלוז'ין ומאוחר יותר כיהן כראש ישיבה וכרבה של מיץ שם כיהן עד לפטירתו בגיל מופלג. ספריו: 'שאגת אריה', 'טורי אבן' ו'גבורת ארי'. רבינו הגאון בעל ה'חפץ חיים' כתב בהקדמתו לספר 'גבורת ארי': ”רבינו הגדול שר התורה גאון הגאונים ארי' דבי עילאי מאורן של ישראל בעל 'שאגת אריה'”. רבינו הגר”א העיד עליו כי הוא יכול לסדר כל תמצית הש”ס בשעה אחת במחשבתו.
