Bidspirit auction | Three Vintage Prince Albert Crimp

Three Vintage Prince Albert Crimp Cut Tobacco Pocket Tins - This lot consists of three lithographed tinplate tobacco pocket tins for Prince Albert brand tobacco, manufactured by the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Each tin features a vibrant red ground with yellow serif lettering reading PRINCE ALBERT above a central white oval containing a black and white portrait of a bearded man in formal Edwardian attire. Below the portrait, the text reads CRIMP CUT LONG BURNING PIPE AND CIGARETTE TOBACCO and NET WT. 1 1/2 OZ. The side panels feature a vertical black UPC barcode and printed text identifying the manufacturer as R. J. REYNOLDS TOBACCO CO. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. 27102, U.S.A. The hinged lids are marked PUSH UP near a thumb notch and OPEN OTHER SIDE on the opposite edge. Two of the tins retain paper retail price stickers on the lids; one is a yellow and white sticker printed with GROCERY 69 cents and the other is a partially torn sticker with the word GROCERY visible. The presence of ZIP codes and UPC barcodes identifies these as later 20th-century production examples of the classic brand packaging.
