Vue d'Optique - Admiralty Office, Dock Yard etc Amsterdam c1770 - This original hand-coloured engraving is the A Perspective View of the Admiralty Office, Dock Yard, Store Houses, &c. at Amsterdam. London c1770 Optical views were very fashionable in the 18th century. They were engravings, mainly on copper plates, made to be seen through an optical box (with the text and image inverted), which consisted of an inclined mirror and a large lens, in order to be able to see the prints. These etchings are now exhibited in museums around the world and are highly valued by collectors and decorators alike for their historical interest and high decorative value.
