Bidspirit auction | A Meissen hard paste porcelain
A Meissen hard paste porcelain figure allegorical of ‘Winter’, modelled by Friedrich Elias Meyer, German (1723-1785), circa 1815, the bearded man figure standing wearing an ermine lined cape and warming his hands at a brazier, on a gilt scroll rocaille base, base with blue crossed swords mark, gilt 53 and inscribed model number 2731. Also decorators marks 85 and small red painted 43, 23cm high. The blue crossed sword mark design suggests a date circa 1815 for production of this figure. A similar figure of 'Winter' in the Landesgewerbemuseum, Stuttgart, is illustrated by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810 (1966), no. 991.
