Pair of French Scrubbed Pine Doors with Decoupage and Trompe l’Oeil Decoration, 19th Century - A pair of nineteenth-century French scrubbed pine doors with heavily worn decoupage and trompe l’oeil decoration. Each door is simply constructed with full-length pine planks, a single horizontal cross-member and breadboard ends at the top and bottom, secured with small wooden pegs through the tenons. The scrubbed pine surface is deeply oxidized and worn throughout. The otherwise austere construction has been transformed by a lively surface of applied decoupage prints, later manipulated with trompe l’oeil decoration. The doors can be used decoratively as wall-mounted architectural elements, or professionally adapted for use as interior doors. 95 1/2 in. H x 33 3/8 in.
